It has been one big day.

Panic In Tupelo

It was supposed to be so easy.

Deny gays the right to be hitched. They'd lose, and they would crawl back in the holes the came from.....or in...depending.

Funny how things turned out. Gays are NOT being the obedient sodomites the Religious Wrong were hoping for. Thousands...possibly millions...took the streets on Saturday to protest proposition 8, a California constitutional amendment that stripped gays of the right to marry. On top of that, the NeoXians are not getting any help from the Republican Governor, who is supporting the gays' battle. Not to mention most of the state legislature and several communities.

And they're not finished. The next salvo is a "Day Without a Gay," asking gays, lesbians, transgenders, and bisexuals to forgo work for one day in protest.

As you can imagine, the H8ers are not to pleased.

Which brings me to this little bit from our No-Necked friend in Tupelo.

We have arrived at a most urgent time in history.

Some elected officials in California - the governor and a number of
legislators - have decided that the vote of the people means NOTHING.

Yes....when you pass a law that is pretty much illegal....

For reasons known only to them, they have indicated that they want the vote
of the people
concerning Proposition 8 overturned.

So here's some education for your neck-less ass.

According to KABC-TV Legal Analyst Dean Johnson the issue for the court to decide is whether Prop 8 amends the constitution or revises it.

"If it's an amendment then it can be ratified by a majority vote of the voters. If on the other hand prop 8 is a revision then it requires a much more elaborate procedure," said Johnson.
For starters, if the same-sex marriage ban is a revision of the constitution, the State Legislature would have to approve prop 8 by a two-thirds majority or call a constitutional convention.

And the question is Prop, a revision of the constitution, i.e. something so radical that it changes the very nature of the constitution.

This is Section One of the California Constitution:

SECTION 1. All people are by nature free and independent and have inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy.

But, currently, Section 7.5 states:

SEC. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

It is clear that Section 7.5 either violates or revises the constitution.

And to revise it, it would have to go through the legislature, which the backers of P8 did not.

To date, 44 legislators as well as the governor are petitioning the California
Supreme Court to declare Proposition 8 unconstitutional. Although I fail to see
how something that is in the constitution can be unconstitutional, this is what
they are advocating nevertheless.

Because, pinhead, you did not follow procedure.

I have never-EVER-witnessed such blatant disdain from elected officials towards
a majority of their constituents as is the case concerning the sanctity of
marriage.

Are we channeling Strother Martin, here, dude?

What we must do is to let our voices be heard-NOW.

I am not suggesting we should take to the streets as the marriage
opponents are currently doing. We must make our voices be heard directly by
every legislator in California - both in the Assembly and in the Senate - as
well as by the governor. We have voted on this issue-TWICE-and it is high time
the government of the people, by the people, and for the people be restored TO
the people.

Or else, what? Force the Governor to watch continued showings of "Jingle All the Way?"

You have used the same lame excuses that various and sundry bigots.....and you are bigots....have used to prop up slavery, miscegenation, segregation, and some of the current racism disguised as our lust for protecting our borders.

But not only that, as we have pointed out before, the campaign to pass P8 was built on lies and truth-bending. You knew damned well that the people of California would never take away a right, so you put fear in thier hearts.....fear that "homosexuality will be taught in the schools!" But ANY talk of marriage would come in comphrensive sex education which is (A) voluntary and (B) you probably oppose anyway.

What you are afraid of is the change that is coming. Along with the finacincial changes will come social and, yes, sexual changes. These changes will be as game-changing as those in the 50's and, as they were, these are inevitable.

And that includes the right for people to marry whoever they want.

You can stomp and moan and throw a tantrum all you wish. The flood that will overtake you will be as massive as that which destroyed the dinosaurs.

WIldmon Watch: Power Outage

Seems that Donald Wildmon, aka NoNeck, is really worried that the homophobic Prop 8 in California that would steal marriage rights away from same-sex couples might not pass.

Probably because he has good reason to.

For starters, there is the latest polling, showing that Proposition 8 is trailing by a small margin: 51% Yes, 43% no (the link to the poll can be found in this article).

Then there is the wording of the measure:

The formal wording, approved by Attorney General Jerry Brown, says that 8 "eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry," which it basically does.

The 'phobes don't like that wording because, outside of being accurate, pretty much exposes the bigotry of thier proponents. (http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/vig_11042008_public_display.htm)

And then, there is that $250,000 from Pacific Gas and Electric:

Giving a financial and public relations boost to gay marriage proponents,
PG&E announced today that it is giving $250,000 to the No on Proposition 8
campaign.



The utility also said it will spearhead the formation of a business
advisory council that will seek to get other businesses around California to to
defeat the ballot initiative that would amend the state constitution to define
marriage as only between a man and a woman.



"We are thrilled to partner with PG&E," Geoff Kors, executive director
of Equality California, said in a statement.



The donation from the utility, and the formation of the business council,
represents a shift from the last time that the question of gay marriage was on
the ballot, in 2000. Back then, many businesses stayed on the
sidelines.



Analysts said businesses may be more willing to get involved this time
because they have more gay and lesbian employees who are out and in positions of
power and because they believe the amendment could hurt business if passed, by
giving the impression that California is not friendly to gay and
lesbians.



The other side has received donations from business as well. Doug
Manchester, a major hotel owner in San Diego, has given tens of thousands of
dollars, for example. Those donations prompted gay and lesbian activists to call
for a boycott of the Hyatt hotels he owns in San Diego.Republican strategist
Allan Hoffenblum noted that PG&E probably doesn't have to worry about that.
They are, after all, a utility with a monopoly in many areas.



"I can't in outrage call PG&E and say, 'Cut off my gas," he
said.

First off, I don't think I'll be visiting Papa Doug's Manchester Grand Hyatt or SD Marriott Hotel and Marina anytime soon.

Second, this is just a drip in a rather large bucket that sees the opponents of P8 gather over $8 million to stop this insanity. That includes $3000 that was quietly donated by Mary Chaney. THAT Mary Cheney.

They are panicking in Tupelo.

So after firing off $500k to the CA 'phobes pushing P8, I got this little missive from Bigot Central:

Dear Donald,
Families in northern and central California may wonder why their gas and electric rates are going up. Well, here is one reason for the increase: Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has just donated $250,000 to help defeat Prop 8, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

That's funny, I thought it was the high cost of oil....

It is wrong for public utility PG&E to take a political position against Proposition 8.

One wonders if he would have said the same thing if PG&E came our FOR P8....

PG&E announced that it will donate $250,000 to the "No on 8" campaign, and join with campaign reps and officials from the sponsoring homosexual group Equality California to create a business advisory council which will encourage state businesses to help defeat the ballot measure.

Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, says no public utility should be allowed to take such a position. "They provide power -- gas and electricity. They should not be taking positions against ballot measures," he emphasizes. "That's like a quasi-government agency taking positions against ballot measures, which is illegal."

Except it is NOT illegal, Randy.....you dufus. PG&E is a private company traded on the NYSE. It is NOT onwed by a city goverment. That means it is free to do with that money what they will.

Oh: one last thing. As for that threat that gays getting married would mean the end of marriage in general, do you know that Massachusetts, the other state that has legalized same-sex marriage, has the LOWEST d-i-v-o-r-c-e rate in the nation.
